It all started in 1949 in New Haven, USA by Bernard Gantmacher, who, after years of creating shirts for others, decided to make his own label. The success came from the huge impact that the style and high quality of his shirts had on Ivy League college students: Gant practically created the American East Coast University Look, which is now considered timeless.

Our story begun on 1983 when our founder and designer David Chu had a very clear vision: to create nautical-inspired, quality pieces that allow people across the world to realize and experience the joy of the water. Starting with only six outerwear styles, Chu grew Nautica into a renowned global lifestyle brand with over 35 categories in more than 65 countries.

On 4 March 1957, the mill Maglificio Daco, founded in 1921, opened its doors under the new owner Gian Ludovico Dini and started producing high quality fabrics.  The fabrics were shipped around the world thanks to prestigious partnerships with Christian Dior and Balenciaga. At the start of the 1970s, Paolo (Paul) Dini, the eldest son of Gian Ludovico, during a trip to a small sailmaker's workshop in Maine, found a sail from an old 18th-century clipper that caught his attention: the inscription read "Paul&Shark". The Paul&Shark brand was born.

Ever since, Paul & Shark is a pioneer in smart casual and luxury sportswear, famous for the quality of its garments and its timeless design.
